ANNUAL FISH STOCKING 2022
On one of the few rainy days in May, the 11th, we managed to stock Lake Buchanan with one million hybrid striped bass fry, as we have done for many years in the past. Different this year is that Texas Parks & Wildlife had put 750,000 fry of the same species in the lake a couple weeks earlier, on April 27. We look forward to a bumper crop of legal size hybrids in a few years! Happy fishing. Thanks to our LBCC boat captains Steve Williams (not pictured), Richard Bunte, Buddy Harris and their crews for venturing out in the somewhat chilly rain. |
ANNUAL MEMBERS BUSINESS MEETING and
CHRISTMAS MIXER.
On Saturday, December 4th, 2021 members were treated to a catered fajita dinner with all the trimmings at the Hill Country Hall. The Hall had been decorated with all the traditional Christmas holiday decor by member volunteers. In addition to a great dinner, with time for comradery, those attending received an update on the activities and financial status of our organization.

We hope you didn't miss our great fish fry...........did you?
On Saturday September 4th we held our annual fish fry at the Hill Country Hall. We served catfish with all the trimmings, including fried biscuits, to a record crowd of over 450 folks. Our silent auction was also a great success, offering many high-quality items at what seemed to be bargain basement sale prices. We concluded the evening by drawing for the winners of our three gun raffle. If you stayed home, you missed a great outing. Maybe you can make it next year.

We stocked Lake Buchanan with 1 million hybrid striper fry on May 6th, 2021. We have done this for so many years now that we have lost count!

With the assistance of the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corporation ( LBCC) volunteers and Inks Lake personnel, Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Division personnel completed another extensive habitat project. This one on Inks Lake where over 100 cedar trees were bundled, anchored and sunk in several predetermined locations for fish habitat. These sites will have GPS coordinates which will be available to the public via the TPWD web site, http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/inks/structure.phtml
The LBCC, being an affiliate with FRIENDS of RESEVOIRS (FOR), a group dedicated to protecting and / or restoring fisheries habitat in reservoir systems nationwide, is very active in carrying out its mission in Lake Buchanan. They have been instrumental in establishing new habitat in the lake while increasing accessibility by supplying docks and extending boat ramps. Future plans include helping with projects ion Inks Lake.

Boat Dock Access Improvements
Boat Dock Project
The first of three moveable aluminum docks to be placed on Lake Buchanan by the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corp (LBCC) was rolled into the water on Shaw Island Tuesday, Oct. 13. This dock, as are the other two yet to be placed, are funded by the LBCC, and donated to the LCRA with approval of land access by Llano County.
One of the remaining two docks will be placed at Llano County Park and the other at Burnet County Park. Cost of the total project will exceed $18,000 and will be borne in its entirety by the LBCC. Placement of these two will follow within the next month.
The problem of lake access on Lake Buchanan has been well recognized and is an unfortunate deterrent to those looking for a place to enjoy water recreation. Equally important is accessibility for emergency equipment in time of need for those on the lake.
The LBCC has been in existence for 10 years as a nonprofit 501c3 corporation with a goal of bettering the Lake Buchanan area for all who may wish to use it. Our income is derived from membership dues ( 160 members ) and from various fundraisers held throughout the year.

LBCC Stocks Lake Buchanan
Stocking Lake Buchanan with Hybrid Striped Bass:
LBCC, at an expenditure of over $140,500.00 with Texas Parks and Wildlife approval, stocked over 10 million Hybrid Striper Fry (baby fish) and 545,000 fingerlings, which resulted in Lake Buchanan being one of Texas' best Hybrid Striper fishing lakes! |
LBCC Installs Fish Habitat
LBCC cuts, hauls and ties cedar for brush piles to enhance habitat for black bass and crappie. Members load TPWD boats with brush to place habitat, then mark GPS coordinates
for fisherman. |
Building and Extending Boat Ramps!
LBCC promoted building new, and extending boat ramps for
recreational and emergency access to the lake. LBCC obtained LCRA approval, provided funds and partnered with Llano and Burnet Counties who provided labor for construction. |
LBCC Enhanced Parks
LBCC obtained approval from Llano County and built a display board to provide information on the lake, fish identification flyers and GPS coordinate flyers for fish habitat. LBCC also donated picnic tables for the park!
We have also placed signs around Lake Buchanan to educate and instruct the public on the potential of zebra mussels coming to our area. |
