Fish Habitat
Brush Piles and Fish Attractors

LBCC obtained approval from LCRA and Texas Parks and Wildlife to install fish habitat brush piles in Lake Buchanan.  An LBCC member generously donated access to his ranch for members to cut and haul cedar trees for these habitat sites.  With chain saws buzzing, volunteers cut and trailered numerous loads of brush to the waters edge. Trees were tied together to form a brush pile, concrete blocks were attached and members loaded them onto Texas Parks and Wildlife boats.  TPWD searched out the sites, installed the brush piles and marked the locations with GPS coordinates.  These locations are on LBCC’s and TPWD’s websites as well as flyers that are located at various locations at launch sites around the lake.  As water levels have fluctuated drastically with the drought, some sites became habitat for warm- blooded animals on the bank, rather than the intended fish.  Because of the variance of lake levels, LBCC has made a $5000 investment in man made habitat that can be moved as water levels change.  Plans are to have twenty five new sites installed by mid summer 2015.  TPWD has again agreed to place the habitat and mark with GPS coordinates that will be posted on both TPWD and LBCC websites. LBCC is interested in improving fishing for all species in this beautiful lake and these sites are havens for crappie, black bass, and sunfish.

LBCC obtains funds for fish habitat projects through yearly fund-raisers, grants, membership fees, and donations.  LBCC invites you to participate in our fund-raisers, golf tournament, fish fry, and shotgun raffle to help us continue this program. We invite you to become a member of LBCC as yearly membership fees to LBCC is another beneficial source of income for the organization’s projects.  Click here for membership form.  Click here for donation form.  As a 501(c)3 organization, all contributions are tax deductible.
