Inks Lake Fish Habitat Project March 2016
With the assistance of the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corporation ( LBCC) volunteers and Inks Lake personnel, Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries Division personnel completed another extensive habitat project. This one on Inks Lake where over 100 cedar trees were bundled, anchored and sunk in several predetermined locations for fish habitat. These sites will have GPS coordinates which will be available to the public via the TPWD web site, http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/inks/structure.phtml
The LBCC, being an affiliate with FRIENDS of RESEVOIRS (FOR), a group dedicated to protecting and / or restoring fisheries habitat in reservoir systems nationwide, is very active in carrying out its mission in Lake Buchanan. They have been instrumental in establishing new habitat in the lake while increasing accessibility by supplying docks and extending boat ramps. Future plans include helping with projects ion Inks Lake.

HARTH Foundation Donation
Ron Abshier visited the HARTH Foundation Ranch March 7th to present Sherry Atherton, owner, a donation check for $3,000.00 on behalf of the Lake Buchanan Conservation Corporation. Sherry accepted the check in front of a few of the amazing horses that assist with the counseling of our returning veterans. Boat Dock Project
Hey LBCC members,
As of today, ( 10/29/15 ) all three docks are in the water and looking beautiful!
As y’all know, other than putting Hybrid Striper’s into the lake, the biggest project we’ve undertaken since LBCC’s inception is working a deal to donate three docks to the LCRA to be placed at three locations around the lake; Shaw Island, Llano County Park and Burnet County Park. The initial idea of doing the dock project was presented several months ago by board member Butch Whitworth. ...The project involved structuring a presentation which included LCRA owning the docks and the two counties allowing access across their land. We have worked with all three entities in the past when we got a ramp poured at Shaw Island and the Burnet County ramp extended and have found all to be receptive to progressive ideas which benefit the lake, it’s inhabitants and it’s visitors.
It’s a shame that statewide and nationally Lake Buchanan is known for it’s great striper/hybrid/blue catfish fishing and, unfortunately, for it’s lack of access via recognized ramps with docking areas. Slowly, but surely, the LBCC is changing that outlook. After the first dock was installed a few weeks ago our board Secretary, Annette Gardner, sent out press releases announcing the launching of the dock and immediately had success with one of the major national fishing periodicals publishing her info.
So, a step forward and a thank you to all our members who have contributed by paying membership dues and giving their support to LBCC attaining it’s goals.
We’re open to new ideas for projects and would love to hear from you. NOT TOO BIG, WE JUST DROPPED 18K ON THIS ONE!
Thanks,
Ron

Building and extending boat ramps!
|
LBCC promoted building new, and extending boat ramps for
recreational and emergency access to the lake. LBCC obtained LCRA approval, provided funds and partnered with Llano and Burnet Counties who provided labor for construction. |
LBCC Enhanced Parks
|
LBCC obtained approval from Llano County and built a display board to provide information on the lake, fish identification flyers and GPS coordinate flyers for fish habitat. LBCC also donated picnic tables for the park! In 2015 the LBCC has installed signs on Lake Buchanan, in several locations, to raise public awareness of zebra mussels.
